It’s hard to watch, worse if you have loved ones in Japan. PopSmartsZen is urging you to donate money — not supplies (to date, no legit organization is set up to properly receive and distribute) — to a charity. Specify you want your donation earmarked for Japan.
It’s also hard to figure out how not to get scammed. I found a great site that vets charities, Charity Navigator. Check them out, read their research and give! Don’t forget the affected animals.
